Vandoorne and Hughes sign with Maserati MSG in Formula E

Stoffel Vandoorne and Jake Hughes will race for Maserati MSG Formula E within the 2024/25 season, the Italian team has confirmed.

Maserati MSG announced last Friday that it was parting ways with Maximilian Guenther and Jehan Daruvala for this yr, while Vandoorne's departure from DS Penske was also confirmed on the identical day.

The 2021/22 Formula E champion will remain within the Stellantis family, moving from DS Penske to Maserati MSG, as was expected and confirmed on Monday.

The Belgian joins the trio having struggled to maintain pace with two-time champion and team-mate Jean-Eric Vergne of DS Penske, having scored only one podium finish in two years.

“I am very happy to be joining Maserati MSG Racing next season and I am proud to be associated with such an iconic brand in motorsport as Maserati,” said Vandoorne.

“I’m looking forward to starting work with the team – although I haven’t worked directly with them before, I do know them well, each from my time at DS Penske and from my time at Mercedes after we shared the powertrain with Venturi.

“It's a great group of people, very talented, very determined and I'm really looking forward to working together in the future. I hope we'll have a lot of success and fight for victories and championships together.”

Hughes joins the team after spending the last two seasons at McLaren, during which era he has shown impressive pace on every lap, taking 4 pole positions and a Formula E podium in Shanghai this yr.

Before racing within the all-electric championship, the 30-year-old Briton was a reserve driver for the Maserati team, most recently under the Venturi name.

“I am delighted to be joining Maserati MSG Racing. The success the team has had as one of the founding teams in Formula E speaks for itself,” said Hughes.

“On a private level, I actually have worked with this team before so I do know them well and I’m really looking forward to getting back together.

“I do know the season has only just ended but I truthfully can’t wait to get to the HQ in Monaco, start working with the engineers, get within the simulator and begin preparing for Season 11.

“This marks the start of an exciting new chapter in my career, and I know the best is yet to come.”
