Rinus VeeKay is now a free agent until 2025 after confirming departure from Ed Carpenter Racing

Rinus VeeKay is officially a free agent after taking to social media to verify his contract with Ed Carpenter Racing has ended.

While the last two seasons have been difficult by way of results, this latest campaign has seen flashes of rebirth for each the Dutchman and Ed Carpenter Racing, along with his best result, fifth (Iowa, Race 1), to go together with six additional top-10 finishes en path to a Thirteenth-place finish within the championship – the second-best by a driver with a team not affiliated with Andretti Global, Arrow McLaren, Chip Ganassi Racing or Team Penske.

VeeKay’s entire time in North America’s premier open-wheel championship has been spent with Ed Carpenter Racing so far. Since his 2020 debut, he has amassed one win (Indy Grand Prix, 2021), 4 podiums, nine top-five finishes, two poles and 212 laps led in 80 starts.

VeeKay, 24, shared his thoughts on social media platform X, where the announcement of his termination from the organization was also made:

“A big “thank you” to everyone who has sent me kind messages over the previous couple of days.

“I might also prefer to thank Ed Carpenter Racing for giving me the chance and support over the past 5 years…

“We had some great successes together, but as with all racing event, we had our challenges… but most significantly, we all the time gave it our all and rejoiced… with great cohesion…

“Now that my contract with ECR has come to an end, I’m excited in regards to the future and know that my best racing years are ahead of me.

VeeKay joins an inventory of talented drivers on the open market on the lookout for a ride in 2025, including Alexander Rossi and Linus Lundqvist, amongst many others. One potential candidate who could possibly be fighting for a spot is Logan Sargeant, who was recently confirmed to check with Meyer Shank Racing after being forced out of his Formula 1 seat at Williams.
