Lamborghini has hired Maurizio Leschiutta from BMW, where he led the M Hybrid V8 LMDh program and have become its recent head of motorsport.
Leschiutta has taken on the role of Director of Motorsport to oversee the Italian manufacturer's LMDh prototype, GT3 and single-brand automotive programs within the Italian manufacturer's in-house Squadra Corse competition division.
The Italian-Canadian takes up the position at Lamborghini 10 months after his predecessor, Giorgio Sanna, was fired in March last 12 months.
He will report on to Chief Technology Officer Rouven Mohr, who has been acting as Director of Motorsport on an interim basis.
Leschiutta described his recent role as a “great pleasure” and “an important milestone.”
“I hope that I can write a short paragraph on one of the many pages of her history books and I am sure that together we will face the challenges in the years to come,” he said.
Mohr added: “We are delighted to welcome Maurizio Leschiutta to the Lamborghini family at the start of the new season – he is someone who has incredible knowledge and experience in motorsport.”

Leschiutta's profession includes an 11-year stint with the Ferrari Formula 1 team within the engine department, during which he worked as a support engineer for drivers similar to Gerhard Berger, Jean Alesi and Eddie Irvine.
In 2003, he moved to sister brand Maserati to work on the Ferrari-based V12 engine that powered the hugely successful MC12 GT1 competitor, after which began racing throughout the program.
He was technical director of Audi's WRT DTM team in 2019, before joining BMW M Motorsport as chief program engineer for the German touring automotive series, before taking up the M Hybrid V8 project in 2021.
Leschiutta's arrival at Squadra Corse coincides with the downsizing of the SC63 LMDh program, which last 12 months included one automotive within the World Endurance Championship and each fourth IMSA SportsCar Championship endurance race.
Lamborghini has withdrawn from the WEC for 2025 and has an entry within the single-car GTP class for five rounds of the IMSA Endurance Cup.
It cited an absence of resources to enter each championships after the WEC decided in June that manufacturers competing within the Hypercar class must field two cars.
Leschiutta's announcement stated that Lamborghini “will enter the SC63 for the first time as a Squadra Corse participant.”
This confirms the whole separation from the Iron Lynx team, which last 12 months fielded a Lambo LMDh in WEC and IMSA, and likewise drove a Hurcan GT3 EVO2 in each series.
Lamborghini has not yet revealed the structure of the entry, which can be listed as Automobili Lamborghini Squadra Corse.
So far, it has only been confirmed that the automotive on the season-opening 24 Hours of Daytona on January 25-26 can be driven by Romain Grosjean, Daniil Kvyat, Mirko Bortolotti and Edoardo Mortara, who were a part of the 2024 LMDh line-up.
First tests of the brand new GT3 competitor, based on the Temerario road automotive launched last summer, are scheduled for this 12 months, ahead of its availability to customers in 2026.
It is being developed in cooperation with Podium Advanced Technologies and never with Dallara Automobili just like the Huracan.
A single-brand version of the Super Trofeo automotive is scheduled to look in the marketplace in 2027.
