Feeney and Brown dominate Sunday's race

The Triple Eight duo led from the beginning, with Feeney on pole and Brown in third, with the pair separated by an brisk Brodie Kostecki.

Points leader Brown was overshadowed by his younger teammate for the primary half of the 48-lap journey, but Feeney's pitstop three laps earlier allowed him to increase his result in almost 3 seconds. Brown closed the gap over the ultimate 20 laps, but on the flag Feeney had a 1.2255s lead.

“I haven't won on a Sunday all year,” Feeney smiled after his second win of the weekend and fifth of the season.

“Two wins this weekend, I'm really enthusiastic about that. The pace was crazy throughout the race, high sevens throughout the race. But I knew when he got to the second [behind]it might be quite exertions.

For Brown, second place and a rather smaller points lead were strong rewards for a consistent weekend.

“I worked really hard and we pitted a few laps later, hoping to finally beat him,” Brown said.

“I've got a really good start, two good starts this weekend, which is positive. We're both so fast that the guy who just won pulls me back into the championship.”

Third place was an ideal reward for Kostecki, who looked like the previous 2023 title winner for the primary time this season. His Saturday woes were put to rest as his Erebus Motorsport crew worked through the night to interchange the engine, transmission and even the brakes on the largely unsponsored No. 1 Camaro.

“I think missing two days of running with the Gremlins put us behind those guys,” he said.

“The guys worked really hard last night, they worked their asses off.

What the team (and everybody else) has to fret about is that they were 16 seconds (0.33 laps) behind similar Red Bull cars.

An important battle is behind us. James Golding retained fourth place on the grid under the flag, and his Chevrolet PremiAir repeated Saturday's result. He overtook Nick Percat and Jack Le Brocq (Erebus Motorsport) in Matt Stone Racing.

Behind the six-pack Chevrolet was the primary Ford Mustang, with Will Davison leading Dick Johnson Racing teammate Anton De Pasquale to “class honors.” For the second race in a row, the shortage of pace of the Fords (only three Mustangs were in the highest 13) have to be surprising, even when the statistics come from a comparatively small sample.

To underline how difficult the situation was for the Ford teams, Cam Waters, starting nineteenth, could only advance to fifteenth place.

After his heroic performances on Saturday, Chaz Mostert again had problems in qualifying and this time, from twentieth position in the beginning, he only managed to achieve sixteenth position, since the drivers ahead of him followed his example on Saturday and took 4 tires on the track as an alternative of two. their mandatory stops.

Feeney's outstanding weekend saw him cut Brown's points result in 108, with Brown on 1,353 and Feeney on 1,245. Mostert stays third on 1,074, ahead of Nick Percat on 855. The biggest player of the weekend was James Golding, who moved up from twelfth place before the weekend to 5 at 845.

The Supercars Championship will then move to Queensland for 2 races at Townsville's Reid Park Street circuit on July 6-7.
