Waters, who has began twice within the Truck Series this 12 months, entered Sunday's race at Sonoma (Calif.) Raceway for the third time for RFK Racing.
He had problems in Saturday's qualifying and began from thirty first position, but within the second stage of Sunday's race he was in the highest twenty.
On lap 35 of 110, Josh Berry clipped Erik Jones' nose and hit the within wall in Turn 11 before spinning back onto the track and hitting several cars, including Martin Truex Jr. and Waters. In total, no less than seven cars were damaged consequently of the incident.
Waters' No. 60 Ford was never the identical. He was eventually forced to pit as a consequence of severe suspension damage and retired after 66 laps and ending thirty fifth.

Disappointed? Hardly.
“I had a great time,” said the 12-time Supercars winner. “This weekend and the entire experience of coming to the road course in a Cup automobile was sensible.
“I can't thank everyone enough for making this occur. At the start of the race I wasn't taking it easy for the primary few laps after which I used to be pushing and attempting to overtake a number of cars. The automobile was super fast.
“It could definitely create some cars running on the ground, which was really good. The cautions dropped a bit and I think we actually made it to the top. Everything looked really good.”

That was until Waters found himself in a seemingly unwinnable situation entering Turn 11 on lap 35.
“I think there were three or four cars going into one corner – unfortunately it never worked,” he said. “It's a part of racing and I suppose there wasn't much I could do about it. It is what it’s.
“We looked really good and it's a shame what happened, but I won't let it ruin my weekend.”
Waters, 29, had familiar company at Sunday's race as current Supercars series leader Will Brown also made his Cup debut, driving for Richard Childress Racing for the third time. Brown also struggled within the race, but finished thirty first, three laps down.
When asked if he would really like to make additional Cup starts, Waters was adamant.
“I definitely want to do it again,” he said. “So hopefully I'll be able to answer the phone and that there won't be any interference on the track and I'll be able to come and sleep again.”
