Three-time DTM champion Rene Rast overtook Porsche rival Thomas Preining to secure victory within the second race on the Red Bull Ring, while Mirko Bortolotti prolonged his lead within the championship.
Bolstered by the overnight change in performance balance, BMW factory driver Rast qualified third on the grid in Austria and moved as much as second by the tip of the primary stint.
The combination of a fast pitstop by Schubert's crew and an undercut gave him the lead midway through the race, which translated into his second victory in 2024 after repelling Preining's late charge.
At the beginning, Saturday's winner Bortolotti easily took pole position in his SSR Performance Lamborghini, while an unsuccessful try and overtake Lucy Engstler in second place left Rast behind the Preining-based Porsche.
The front row remained unchanged until Preining tried to pass Engstler on lap 11, just for Rast to settle the rating and pass him in turn eight.
Rast then overtook Engstler two laps later when the Grasser Lamborghini driver ran wide at Turn 3, and shortly afterwards Preining also caught up with the 24-year-old.
When the pit window opened 20 minutes into the race, Preining was the primary of the leaders to finish the mandatory pit stop, with Bortolotti and Rast following him in the next laps.
Schubert was capable of service Rasta's automobile in lower than seven seconds, which, combined with the strength of the cut on the Red Bull Ring, allowed the German driver to take the lead on the grid.

Soon after, Preining overtook Bortolotti for second after a textbook pass into Turn 3, laying the foundations for a tense duel between him and Rast.
Rast's comfortable three-second lead quickly began to vanish as Preining began to hunt the German, who had given him his first victory because the second round on the Lausitzring in May.
With 1 / 4 of the race remaining, Rast had clearly done enough to fend off the reigning champion, but Preining attacked him again within the closing stages.
Ultimately, the BMW driver managed to maintain Preining at bay with a bonus of just 0.6 seconds.
Third place went to the Mercedes HRT of Arjun Maini, who celebrated a double podium on the Red Bull Ring after coming out on top in an epic three-way battle with Schubert's Sheldon van der Linde and Preining's teammate Aynchan Guven within the straight between Turn 3 and 4.
Maini was one among the few drivers to delay his mandatory stop until the tip of the pit window, allowing him to relegate polesitter Bortolotti to fourth place.
The Italian, nonetheless, still got here away from the race with an even bigger lead within the championship, together with his closest rival and Abt driver Kelvin van der Linde ending just behind him in fifth place.
As on Saturday, South Africa was held back by poor qualifying and will only regain a top-five finish after starting the race from eleventh place.

His brother Sheldon van der Linde was classified sixth, ahead of EMA's Guven of Manthey, who reported damage to his Porsche after half the course on grass in a battle with Maini and the younger van der Linde.
Maro Engel was the one winner for the Winward Mercedes team in eighth place after teammate Lucas Auer stopped on the beginning/finish straight with seven minutes to go resulting from a mechanical problem.
Grasser Lamborghini's Frank Perera and Emil Frey Ferrari driver Jack Aitken rounded out the highest ten.
Engstler, who was initially fighting for second place with Rast and Preining, eventually withdrew from the race resulting from an equipment problem.
