WRC stars ready for revamped Monza Rally Show

The Monza Rally Show will return this 12 months, with World Rally Championship teams and drivers collaborating within the event on the famous Italian circuit.

The event might be a celebration of Pirelli’s four-year run because the WRC’s exclusive tyre supplier. From next season, Korean tyre manufacturer Hankook will act because the championship’s control tyre.

Pirelli will promote the event from 6-8 December in partnership with the WRC promoter, the FIA ​​and the Monza circuit.

Toyota, Hyundai and M-Sport-Ford are confirmed to be collaborating with their Rally1 machines, which is able to perform demonstration runs on stages built using the Italian Grand Prix Formula 1 circuit on Friday and Saturday, before collaborating within the Master Show on Sunday. The drivers who will participate within the event haven’t yet been announced.

Organisers also confirmed that Rally2 cars will participate in eight special stages.

The Monza Rally Show began in 1978 and has been held annually ever since, attracting the most important names in rallying. However, MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi is essentially the most successful rider on the event, with seven wins.

Monza previously hosted the ultimate round of the WRC within the 2020 and 2021 seasons, which were affected by COVID-19, with Toyota’s Sebastien Ogier winning each editions to secure his seventh and eighth WRC titles.

“We are delighted to once again be hosting the World Rally Championship in Monza, which we consider our home,” commented Terenzio Testoni, Pirelli’s Rally Activities Manager.

“For us, it will be an opportunity to look back on our time as sole supplier to the WRC, four successful years during which we learned a lot. It will also be an opportunity to say goodbye to the world championship, reiterating that rallying is still an important activity for us.”

Autodromo Nazionale Monza President Giuseppe Redaelli added: “The return of the Monza Rally Show is the most effective technique to end the 2024 season.

“After two editions of the World Championship in 2020 and 2021 and the last round of the Italian Championship in 2023, it will be a great pleasure to celebrate Pirelli together with the WRC champions and the great stars of Italian, European and world rallies on a completely renovated track ready for a great spectacle.”
